
Professor Jörg Liebeherr
Professor Jörg Liebeherr, the Nortel Institute Chair in Network Architecture and Services, was born in Cologne, Germany. Liebeherr began his studies at the University of Cologne and he went on to obtain his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1991. As a Professor at the University of Virginia, Liebeherr received several prestigious teaching awards and served on numerous editorial boards. Liebeherr’s research investigates new approaches to meet the demand for a richer functionality of the global Internet without sacrificing high scalability inside the core infrastructure. Professor Liebeherr will be joining U of T in July 2005.

The Nortel Institute Chair in Emerging Technology and the Nortel Institute Chair in Network Architecture and Services are part of an initiative to develop expertise in high technology and position Canada as a leader in telecommunications research. In 1997, Nortel committed $1 million annually over eight years to establish the Nortel Institute for Telecommunications at U of T, which included the creation of both chairs.
